Once a Thief (1991) Once a Thief

Once A Thief Directed by: John Woo
Starring: Leslie Cheung, Yun-Fat Chow, Cherie Chung

Tagline - "YEAH!!!!"

In this comedy-action movie from John Woo we see Joe Yun-Fat Chow living a life of leisure in France funded by his involvement in a trio of international art thieves, who are played by Leslie Cheung and Cherie Chung respectively.

We see them in action with a spectacular art theft from a moving truck that involves parasailing amongst other things.

Knowing they won't be able to get away with it forever, they decide to quit. However, Joe convinces one his partners in crime to undertake 'one last job' and you just know what is going to happen...

This movie is not to be confused with the later TV series of the same name. It is really great to see John Woo tackling a different genre. He still manages to include some excellent action scenes though.

It's a pity Yun-Fat Chow mainly stars in serious roles as he is really great in this movie. I think he is even better when he turns up in a wheelchair as he generates great pathos in the role.

Even though this movie is mostly a comedy, I would have no trouble recommending it if you are into action adventure movies also. I would like to see Quentin Tarrantino try a comedy sometime, it may turn out something like this movie.
