Conspiracy (2000) Conspiracy

Directed by: Sam Ho

Starring: Ming Kwan Chan, Simon Loui, Sophie Ngan Chin Man

Tagline: "Sleepwalking and knives do not mix."

Maggie goes to pick up her boyfriend Andy from the airport. Before she meets him, she notices him with another woman and he seems anxious when they get home. Maggie's friend Tammy, a police officer, gives her tips on how to find out about what he is up to.

The next day she goes to meet Andy after work and finds him arguing with his boss. Back at home again, Andy seems nervous and wants to go out, but Maggie stays home. During the night, two things happen: Andy's boss is killed and Maggie is seen sleepwalking carrying a dirty kitchen knife.

Tammy and her fellow officers turn up to question Andy, but leave when he explains his alibi. However, a man on the street says he saw Maggie carrying a knife. It starts getting a lot more complicated after this, so I won't ruin it for you by revealing whodunit.

I'm a sucker for a good poster, which this movie has in spades (two nude women brandishing knives.) Unfortunately, the movie itself isn't up to much. It is almost like they didn't know what to make of it.

The characterisations are fine, but the main characters don't really have enough to do in their roles. It was a nice change to see female lead characters in this kind of movie also.

I would recommend this movie if you like undemanding mystery movies. Just don't expect a tits and arse fest like the posters suggests.
