Tagline: 10 years for this?!

The sequel to Storm Riders has been a long time coming and just to get it out of the way, is this movie better that the first film? No, I don’t think it is and it also proves that bigger isn’t better.

Cloud (Aron Kwok) has gone and got himself captured by Lord Godless (Simon Yam) so he could keep an eye on Chu Chu (Yan Tang) who was poisoned along with all the other martial arts masters so Godless and his son Heart (Nicholas Tse) can take over China.

Unknown to Godless is that someone has snuck in an antidote to all the masters and they all attack him, with Nameless (Kenny Ho) leading the charge and Wind (Ekin Cheng) turned up to help.

Godless canes their arses with ease, even exploding some of them and Nameless is left badly injured.

The rest of the movie is taken up with Wind and Cloud’s training with Lord Wicked (Wong Tak-bun) and Lord Godless’ attempt to take over China.

There is lots and lots of action and fight scenes, but I’d rather actually see them sword fighting and not have computer effects all over everything.

Lord Godless pales in comparison with Lord Conquer (Sony Chiba) from the first film and the two leads still look like bored hair models even after all this time.

I did like some of the other characters at least Piggy King (Lam Suet) was always eating, the bloke sweeping out the front of Lord Wicked’s joint, the kung-fu zombie dude and Second Dream (Charlene Choi) added some colour at least. Lord Wicked might sound bad, but he's 'armless. Boom! Boom!

Another thing, why do women insist on hanging around with these losers, or at least have the sense not to interrupt fights where they can be killed? At least they got to have some fighting themselves this time around and not just stand around like romantic furniture.

There were some walk-outs at the screening I went to and the movie does lose its way after the fight with Lord Godless. There is meant to be a third part, but who really cares?

I do still like the first movie as I remember seeing it when it first came out and it seemed so fun at the time and the special effects were used sparingly. This movie is so serious and overblown I don’t really see it doing that well unless you are a really big fan of the series. Download it or something if you really want to see it.
